Stress and mobile phone users
Malibu survey highlights mobile madness
07 January 2004
Mobile phones are designed to make our lives seriously
easy but a recent survey conducted by Malibu®, has revealed
the very opposite. The survey celebrates the new TV advertisements,
which are currently airing nationwide and will help people take
their phones less seriously. Mobile phones cause considerable
amounts of stress for the UK consumer with dysfunctional keys,
dead conversations and frighteningly pricey phone bills.
The surprising statistics revealed by the new survey
show stress levels are shooting sky high within the growing mobile
phone generation. A whopping 63% of those questioned have physically
broken their mobile in a fit of frustration. A further 21% shout
at their phone in a bizarre attempt to scare it into functioning
again and an extreme 3% have purposely run over their mobile in
their car.
People are placing more and more importance on their
mobile, with 56% of those surveyed considering their mobile phone
a fashion accessory. With so much choice out there people are
changing the look of their phone, not to mention the ring tone,
once or twice a week; which is satirised in the new advertising
from Malibu. A mobile is no longer just a communication tool but
a fashion statement, a diary, a timekeeper, a gaming console and
a 'friend'. For some people their mobiles are dictating their
lives, but when they break down the devastation is like losing
a close friend!!
"It becomes blatantly apparent from the UK
research that as a nation we need to start taking life, particularly
our relationship with our mobiles a little less seriously,"
says Jeremy Hill, Senior Brand Manager for Malibu. "One step
in the right direction is to follow Malibu's seriously easy approach
to life and don't get stressed about things that don't really
matter ... after all its just a phone!!."
